About
Feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected from oneself or from relationships can be exhausting, especially while navigating chronic stress, systemic inequities, and the pressure to keep going. If you’re here, something within you is open to support and ready to change. Gary Dillon, PhD, is a licensed psychologist and Black male therapist based in New York City. He is the founder of Ally Psychological Therapy, a psychotherapy practice serving adults in NYC and across New York State via telehealth. Dr. Dillon provides trauma-informed, culturally responsive online therapy and works with individuals and couples navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, identity concerns, relationship challenges, work stress, and the emotional impact of racism, marginalization, and discrimination. Many of his clients identify as people of color, immigrants, first-generation professionals, or members of the LGBTQIA+ community, and are seeking therapy that feels affirming, grounded, and real. His approach is collaborative and integrative, drawing from psychodynamic, relational, and evidence-based therapies while remaining responsive to each client’s lived experience. Together, he and his clients explore patterns, unresolved experiences, and present-day challenges in ways that build self-awareness, emotional regulation, and meaningful change. Therapy with Dr. Dillon is not about fixing or performing; it is about creating space where clients can show up fully, without code-switching, minimizing, or shrinking. For those seeking a Black therapist in NYC who offers thoughtful, engaged, and culturally attuned care, Dr. Dillon would be honored to provide support

Message to clients
Starting therapy can bring up a mix of hope, hesitation, and uncertainty. You might be wondering if therapy will actually help, or if you’ll feel understood. I want you to know that therapy with me is a space where you don’t have to have it all figured out or present a polished version of yourself. You’re allowed to be honest, unsure, and human here. As a Black male therapist in NYC, I understand how deeply identity, culture, and lived experience shape mental health. I offer online therapy that is trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and tailored to who you are, not who you’re expected to be. My goal is to help you better understand yourself, strengthen your relationships, and develop tools that support clarity, resilience, and self-trust. Finding the right therapist matters. The relationship is a key part of what makes therapy effective. To help you decide if we’re a good fit, I offer a free consultation where we can talk about what you’re looking for and how I work. If we’re aligned, we’ll move forward together. If not, I’ll gladly help you think through other options. You deserve support that feels respectful, affirming, and grounded. When you’re ready, I’m here.
