About
Kelly Picune is a Licensed Professional Counselor Candidate (LPCC) and Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP) at Iris Mental Health & Counseling. She works with children, teens, and young adults, providing developmentally informed therapy that meets clients where they are emotionally and cognitively. Kelly uses a variety of therapeutic approaches to find the best fit for each client, including play therapy for younger children, as well as creative, relational, and evidence-informed techniques to help clients safely express emotions, build self-awareness, and strengthen coping skills. Kelly specializes in supporting clients experiencing anxiety, emotional dysregulation, trauma, identity exploration, and life transitions. Much of her work focuses on challenges related to relationships, school, and early career stress, including perfectionism, self-doubt, excessive worry, and behavioral issues in younger kids. She also works closely with parents and caregivers, offering guidance and support as they navigate their child’s emotional and behavioral needs. As a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, Kelly brings a trauma-informed lens to her work, recognizing the impact that stress, relational experiences, and life events can have on the nervous system. Her approach emphasizes safety, regulation, and connection, helping clients better understand their emotional responses and develop tools to feel more grounded and resilient.

Message to clients
If you’re here, you might be feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or unsure of who you’re becoming or where you’re headed. Maybe you’re in college or early in your career and wondering why everything feels harder than it “should.” You might feel stuck in overthinking, comparison, or constant self-doubt, worry that you’re falling behind while everyone else seems to be moving forward. You might feel confused and frustrated by patterns showing up in your relationships—whether that’s difficulty communicating, setting boundaries, or feeling secure and connected to others. Or perhaps you are a parent noticing your child or teen struggling with big emotions, behavior changes, or anxiety and feeling unsure how to help—or even what’s really going on beneath the surface. You may be seeing increased meltdowns, withdrawal, irritability, or changes at school or home, and wondering if this is a phase or something more. For some families, these concerns are happening alongside co-parenting challenges or changes in family structure, such as separation or divorce, which can add another layer of stress and uncertainty. Many parents feel torn between wanting to support their child and worrying about saying or doing the wrong thing, especially when navigating different households, routines, or parenting approaches. Reaching out often comes from a place of deep care and love, even when the situation feels confusing, emotional, or overwhelming. I believe therapy should feel collaborative, compassionate, and accessible. I strive to create a nonjudgmental space where you feel seen, supported, and empowered to move at a pace that feels right for you. My work is guided by the belief that growth happens through understanding, not pressure, and that meaningful change begins with feeling safe and understood.
