Dr. Mary Kate Roohan is a clinical psychologist, drama therapist, speaker, and the founder of Thrive and Feel, a therapy practice in Pasadena, California. She has over eight years of experience supporting adults in outpatient and inpatient mental health settings. In her therapeutic work, Mark Kate integrates techniques from numerous evidence-based modalities that she has been trained in, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and the creative arts therapies. As a drama therapist, she understands that sometimes it is not enough to talk through things... we may need to take action to get to where we want to go. Dr. Mary Kate's educational journey is marked by a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Notre Dame, an M.A. in Drama Therapy from New York University, and a PsyD in Applied Clinical Psychology from the Chicago School. Mary Kate specializes in empowering emotionally sensitive people, HSPs, and empaths to gain control over their lives and improve their overall mental health. As a queer therapist, Dr. Mary Kate is passionate about supporting LGBTGIA+ folx by creating collaborative, healing spaces where clients can be their most authentic selves.
You’re exhausted. You’re spending a lot of your time and energy managing feelings that are “too big,” ruminating about the past, and worrying about the future. You are able to get stuff done when you’re feeling "good" and motivated; however, as soon as your energy shifts, everything instantly becomes so much harder. Put simply, your mood runs the show. You are attuned to the environment around you and are hypersensitive to others’ feelings and judgments; as a result, you avoid doing things that might disappoint others, even if it’s at the expense of your own needs. You sometimes feel lonely, even when you are with other people. I can help you. I will help you understand that you are not alone in your experience as a sensitive person, and will teach you practical tools that you can take with you and use in everyday situations. I use a variety of techniques (including ACT, DBT, EMDR, and creative arts therapy) to make sure that we are reaching your treatment goals. I know it's hard to feel a lot, or to have completely lost access to any feelings at this point. I can help you break the cycle of overwhelm, rumination, and unhelpful coping strategies by teaching practical, accessible tools and strategies and supporting you in changing your relationship to your emotions. Contact me if you are ready to hop in the driver’s seat and move toward a vital and purposeful life.
