About
Dr. Brown graduated with a PhD in Clinical Psychology, and also completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the VA Long Beach in the Advanced Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program. He worked in the VA as a member of the DBT team for several years before moving into private practice. He views individual therapy as a space for support, self-examination, and growth. His fundamental goal is to create a warm, non-judgmental environment wherein his clients feel safe to be authentic and to open up about their struggles. Initial sessions will entail assessing your symptoms and determining what you want to get out of therapy. Treatment varies depending on the client, but in working with Dr. Brown you can expect your therapy to involve procedures such as processing painful life events, reflecting on who you are and what matters to you in life, examining and changing your thoughts, establishing healthy behavior patterns, acquiring new skills for managing emotions, and receiving honest feedback about your impact on relationships. Dr. Brown has extensive experience in various evidence-based therapies, including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), mindfulness- and compassion-based therapy, and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). He also has rich experience in working with clients who are ethnic, racial, and sexual minorities. He specializes in working with professionals (e.g., individuals in law, medicine, tech, education, etc.) in their 20's-50's treating conditions such as depression, anxiety (i.e., performance anxiety, social anxiety, panic, etc.), post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and stress related to work, parenting, or stage of life.
