Theresa Rybchinski is a Registered Social Worker (RSW) and an active member of the Alberta College of Social Workers. She holds a Master of Clinical Social Work degree, specializing in Addiction and Mental Health. With over seven years of experience in addiction and mental health, she has worked across diverse settings, including outpatient addiction centers, inpatient wilderness addiction treatment centers, Indigenous mental health programs, and harm reduction initiatives within Alberta Health Services (AHS) and non-profit organizations. As a somatic trauma therapist trained in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and Accelerated Resolution Therapy (A.R.T.), Theresa’s approach is person-centred, trauma-informed, and grounded in anti-oppressive practices. She deeply values the therapeutic relationship, striving to create a space of comfort, respect, and collaboration. In this environment, clients can explore their experiences, find meaning, build capacity, expand resilience, and move toward empowerment and healing. Theresa’s practice is further informed by Polyvagal Theory, attachment theory, Internal Family Systems, and liberation psychology. Drawing on her training in yoga, mindfulness, and somatic practices, she combines professional expertise with lived experience to help you understand and regulate your unique nervous system. Through this personalized approach, you'll gain the tools to navigate life’s challenges with more resilience and ease.
Welcome! I work from a place where I believe people need people. I draw from a place of lived experience and service. Whatever brought you to a place in seeking out support, I want to acknowledge the courage in taking this first step. I also want to acknowledge that I believe healing is possible. So, wherever you are on your journey, I would be honoured to walk alongside you. If you are feeling overwhelmed and stuck in your life following a traumatic/distressing experience (or multiple), I would be happy to support you. I work from the belief that the issues you are experiencing, ranging from mental health concerns, and addiction to relationship concerns, are symptoms of something that has happened. As a somatic therapist, I work with you to understand what happened and how it has impacted your body, brain, nervous system and, thus, life. We work together at your pace to process trauma and chronic stress from the body while also teaching you tools to navigate life stressors. My hope is that you can reclaim your life and a sense of self to feel empowered to live the life you envision. I look forward to working with you.
